Yankees announce 2025 MiLB coaching staffs
After an offseason with a lot of shake up across the organization, the Yankees released their MiLB coaching staffs this afternoon.
The New York Yankees announced their full-season Minor League coaching staffs earlier today, and after an offseason that saw over a dozen coaches and coordinators get poached, there are a lot of new names across the system.
Here’s who they are:
Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders
Manager: Shelly Duncan - 3rd year as Scranton/WB manager, 3rd season with Yankees. Led RailRiders to an 89-60 record last year, and 162 wins across his first two seasons.
Hitting Coach: Mike Merganthaler - 1st year in Scranton/WB and with Yankees. Spent the past eight seasons in the Cleveland Guardians organization, serving as hitting coach for Triple-A Columbus in 2024. Was drafted in the 32nd round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft by the San Francisco Giants.
Pitching Coach: Gerardo Casadiego - 2nd year in Scranton/WB, 13th with Yankees. Was Scranton/WB bullpen coach in 2024. Has served as a pitching coach at six levels in the organization: DSL Yankees, Pulaski (Rookie), Tampa (Single-A), Hudson Valley (High-A), Somerset (Double-A) and now Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Bullpen Coach: Spencer Medick - 1st year in Scranton/WB, 4th with Yankees. Was Pitching Coach in High-A Hudson Valley in 2024. Hudson Valley set team record with 19 shutouts and threw two no-hitters in 2024. Was also Hudson Valley pitching coach in 2022, and was with FCL Yankees in 2023.
Defensive Coach: Zak Wasserman - 1st year in Scranton/WB, 2nd with Yankees. Was Defensive Coach with High-A Hudson Valley in 2024. Former two-way player at University of Louisville, worked defensively with outfielders and on the team’s baserunning program.
Defensive Coach: Gil Velazquez - 1st year in Scranton/WB and with Yankees. Spent the previous eight seasons in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization, serving as Minor League Infield Coordinator from 2017-21 and again in 2023 and 2024. In 2022, he managed Triple-A Reno to a Pacific Coast League championship, and was named PCL and Baseball America Minor League Manager of the Year. He also served as the first base coach for Mexico in the 2023 World Baseball Classic.
Double-A Somerset Patriots
Manager: Raul Dominguez - 3rd year as Somerset manager, 19th season with Yankees. Was a defensive coach with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre from 2022-22, and was previously a defensive coach with Trenton and Tampa. Previously managed and coached in the DSL and GCL from 2008-16 and was a Yankees’ Tryout Scout in the Dominican Republic in 2007 before coaching.
Hitting Coach: Mike Fransoso - 1st year with Somerset and Yankees. Began 2024 as hitting coach for Double-A Arkansas Travelers in Seattle organization, promoted to manager on Aug. 13. Played for Somerset in 2018 and 2019 when they were members of the independent Atlantic League of Professional Baseball.
Pitching Coach: Peter Larson - 1st year with Somerset and Yankees. Spent six seasons in the Twins organization from 2019-2024, was pitching coach of Triple-A Saint Paul in 2023 and 2024. Coached in high school and college baseball before joining the Twins, including stints at Siena College, UAlbany and Fordham University in New York.
Defensive Coach: Uziel Viloria - 1st year with Somerset and Yankees. Was a coach in the Phillies organization in 2024. One of the youngest coaches in professional baseball, Viloria won’t turn 24 until after the season ends in October.
Defensive Coach: Derek Woodley - 1st year with Somerset, 3rd with Yankees. Was Defensive Coach with High-A Hudson Valley in 2023 and 2024, working with catchers and on the team’s baserunning program. Spent 30 years as a collegiate coach before joining the Yankees, mostly at Defiance College in Ohio, where he also served as the Athletic Director from 2019-22.
High-A Hudson Valley
Manager: James Cooper - 1st year with Hudson Valley, 4th with Yankees. Was manager of Single-A Tampa in 2024 and the FCL Yankees in 2023, where he was Florida Complex League Manager of the Year.
Hitting Coach: Tom DeAngelis - 1st year with Hudson Valley, 3rd with Yankees. Was hitting coach for Single-A Tampa in 2024 and the FCL Yankees in 2023. Coached for 10 years in college baseball before joining the Yankees organization, reaching Division II and Division III tournament six times.
Pitching Coach: Demetre Kokoris - 1st year with Hudson Valley and the Yankees. Coached in Texas Rangers organization from 2022-24, was bullpen coach of Triple-A Round Rock in 2023 and 2024. Has been the pitching coach for the Greek National Team since 2021.
Defensive Coach: Caleb Hamilton - 1st year with Hudson Valley and the Yankees. Retired from playing after 2024 season spent with Rocket City Trash Pandas (LA Angles AA affiliate). Played all nine positions in career, with most coming as a catcher.
Defensive Coach: Teuris Olivares - 1st year with Hudson Valley, 15th with Yankees. Coached with DSL Yankees teams from 2021-24 with previous stops in Pulaski, Staten Island and DSL from 2011-2020. Had a 15-year Minor League playing career, including nine years in the Yankees organization, reaching Triple-A.
Single-A Tampa Tarpons
Manager: Aaron Bossi - 1st year with Tampa, 9th with Yankees. Was a Defensive Coach with Double-A Somerset from 2022-24. Held same role with High-A Hudson Valley in 2021, and was slated for that role with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in 2020. Spent three years (2017-19) rehabbing players in the complex in Tampa. Signed by the Yankees as a non-drafted free agent out of Marshall in 2016, played 22 games for GCL Yankees before transitioning to coaching.
Hitting Coach: Edwin Beard - 1st year with Tampa, 12th with Yankees. Was hitting coach for various DSL Yankees teams from 2014-2024, with DSL Bombers from 23-24. Played first base in Yankees minor league system from 2008-10.
Pitching Coach: Ryan Mossman - 1st year with Tampa and 2nd with the Yankees. Was a pitching coach for the FCL Yankees in 2024, and previously spent four seasons (2020-23) as the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator at Milligan University, an NAIA school in Tennessee. He also coached collegiately at Emory University and the University of Mary Washington, as well as several summer wood bat leagues.
Defensive Coach: Josciel Veras - 1st year with Tampa, and with the Yankees. Was the Director of Player Development for the Wily MoBaseball Academy in Florida run by former Major Leaguer Wily Mo Pena. Drafted by Cincinnati in the 30th round of the 2014 MLB Draft out of Cumberland University, played four seasons in Reds organization.
